The quiet luxury starter wardrobe — bought entirely secondhand
Twelve pieces, four marketplaces, under $1,200. A complete capsule, no compromise.

Quiet luxury, as it turns out, is loudest when bought new. The same cashmere crewneck that retails for $890 sells in excellent condition on TheRealReal for $180 — and on Vestiaire, with a little patience, for closer to $140. Built well, this capsule is a study in what the resale market quietly already knows.
The brief was simple: twelve pieces, four marketplaces, a total under $1,200. Everything had to ship within two weeks and arrive in the condition described. No vintage gambles, no archive flexes — just the kind of wardrobe you reach for on a Tuesday.
We started with the foundation. A Toteme signature trench in camel, sourced from Vestiaire for $340. A pair of The Row Marie H sneakers in navy, $260 on Depop. A cashmere turtleneck from Vince in oatmeal, $72 on Poshmark. Three pieces, three marketplaces, and already the silhouette of a wardrobe.
The middle layer is where most capsules collapse. We added a Loro Piana cashmere cardigan ($210, TheRealReal), an A.P.C. Petit Standard in raw indigo ($72, Grailed), and two cotton-silk tees from Khaite that together cost less than one new ($95). Everything fits the same color story: bone, oat, camel, navy.
Accessories — usually the line item that breaks the budget — held remarkably steady. A Lemaire croissant bag in nappa, $180 on Vestiaire, was the splurge. Two leather belts from Margiela and Acne came in under $90 combined. A pair of Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses, $120, completed the picture.
Final tally: $1,178. Twelve pieces. Four marketplaces. Eleven days from first click to last delivery. Quiet luxury, it turns out, is mostly a matter of who you buy from.
